Our Group is working to reduce its environmental impact and help create a sustainable society in line with its commitment to contributing to a circular society, which it has identified as a material issue. To address climate change and other environmental issues, the Sustainability Committee examines various policies and targets and promotes initiatives under the supervision of the Board of Directors.
Our Group is working to reduce its environmental impact by cutting greenhouse gas emissions and promoting resource recycling in accordance with laws and regulations and voluntary standards, continually enhancing its environmental conservation efforts along the way.
The Sustainability Committee examines policies to address climate change and other environmental issues and checks progress toward targets. The matters discussed by the committee are reported to the Board of Directors each time a meeting is held, and the Board of Directors oversees the Group’s overall sustainability efforts. The identified climate change risks are also shared with the Risk Management Committee and incorporated into the company-wide risk management framework.
Promotion and Operation of Environmental Management
In addition to adhering to common policies and rules, the Group conducts management activities tailored to the circumstances of each business site. Warabeya Nichiyo Holdings Co., Ltd. has been certified and registered under the Ministry of the Environment’s Eco Action 21 environmental management system, and is working to reduce its environmental impact based on the PDCA cycle.
Major legal regulations concerning the food business include the Food Sanitation Act, which regulates food standards, additives, hygiene monitoring, and business licenses; the Water Pollution Prevention Act, which stipulates regulations on effluent from plants and workplaces; and the Product Liability Act, which aims to protect consumers from defective products. We also identify and assess environmental risks, particularly those related to climate change, and are working to address them.
Environmental Education
To raise the environmental awareness of each employee, we include education on environmental laws and regulations in company-wide compliance training, which is conducted on an ongoing basis every year. We are also engaged in rigorous water- and energy-saving measures, using multilingual signage and illustrations to foster an environment in which employees of diverse nationalities can readily engage in these initiatives.
To mitigate the environmental impact of our business activities, we are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and industrial waste generation. To this end, we have established reduction targets for fiscal 2030.
